I felt disappointed at first - they’re all dead? The last shot is of them all bathing in the light of heavenly bliss? Where was Walt and Michael? Actually Michael’s spirt is stuck on the island and Walt isn’t there because Michael got him off the island early I suppose, so thats that. But what about Jack’s son and all the other characters that existed in this made up purgatory-esq fantasy land? They were all figments of their collective imaginings?
Yeah.
Well I wanted a more sciencey/timey wimey end to the proceedings, I wanted there to be a big experiment of some kind, I wanted a big machine with bubbles. Nope just spirits and eternal love, blargh.
I felt a little let down, but now I’ve slept on it and thought it over I’ve had a change of heart. Despite it being cheesy as cheddar it’s had a lasting emotional effect on me which means “it” wins, no matter what my brain might say.
My housemate said TV is dying a death and that this is going to be the last great TV drama that really pushes the boundaries of what is possible.
I hope he isn’t right, but if we in England loose our license fee, meaning the BBC go bye bye, we’ll have to worry about more important issues other than whether we’ll see a paradigm shifting drama again, we’ll have to worry about the neutrality of our news coverage or the Simon Cowe inspired reality blastings of shit.
I hope the coalition government realise how important that license fee is and doesn’t bin it.
Or maybe the fee isn’t important, I dunno. I’ll look into it.
